For a long time I thought my FSA and HSA money was just for copays, prescriptions, and the random thermometer I grabbed when someone had a fever. I genuinely did not realize how many things qualified until I started digging in and suddenly felt like I had been leaving money on the table for years.

Here is what changed my perspective. That money is already set aside. It comes out of your paycheck before taxes. You have already committed it to your health and wellness. So spending it on something that makes you feel good is not indulgent. It is exactly what it was designed for.

Mom relaxing in bed

Mother's Day feels like the right moment to remind every mom reading this that treating yourself counts. Whether you are buying a gift for someone you love or finally getting the thing you have been scrolling past for months and talking yourself out of, your FSA and HSA card works on more than you think. And this list is the proof.

Quick Explainer: FSA vs HSA

If you are fuzzy on the difference, here is the short version. A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is employer sponsored and comes with a use it or lose it rule. Most plans require you to spend your balance by December 31st, though some offer a grace period through March 15th of the following year. A Health Savings Account (HSA) is different because unused funds roll over year after year, and you can even invest the balance over time.

Both accounts let you buy a lot more than most people realize. And the good news is that Amazon has an FSA and HSA eligible filter you can use to shop directly, and FSA Store has an entire dedicated site for eligible products. I will link everything below.

Jump to a Price Range

1. Under $30 — The ones that feel like a treat

2. $30 to $75 — The sweet spot gifts

3. $75 to $150 — The ones she has been wanting

4. $150 and up — The splurge she would never buy herself

5. How to actually use your FSA or HSA card

Under $30 — The Ones That Feel Like a Treat, Not a Medical Supply

This is where you find the things that feel genuinely fun to receive. Nothing clinical about any of these.

Mighty Patch Original Acne Patches

Around $13-15 on Amazon

Mighty Patch has won the Allure Best of Beauty Award two years running and for good reason. These hydrocolloid patches actually work overnight and they are one of those things that once you try them you cannot imagine your skincare routine without them. They are FSA and HSA eligible which makes stocking up feel even better.

Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen

Around $20-22 on Amazon

Supergoop is the sunscreen that finally made moms actually want to wear sunscreen every day. It goes on clear, feels weightless, and works under makeup without leaving any white cast. SPF 40 and broad spectrum which is what you need for FSA eligibility. This one tends to sell out so when you see it in stock it is worth grabbing.

Touchland Power Mist Hand Sanitizer

Around $10-16 on Amazon

This is the pretty hand sanitizer that lives in your bag instead of your medicine cabinet. It sprays as a fine mist, absorbs immediately, and smells good enough that your kids will try to steal it. Touchland is FSA and HSA eligible and comes in a lot of scents. The multipack is a great deal if you want to try a few.

$30 to $75 — The Sweet Spot Gifts

This is where you start getting into things that feel like a real gift. The kind of thing someone picks up, looks at the price tag, and puts back down even though they really want it. Your FSA card removes that mental barrier entirely.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Around $30-50 depending on style

Not the ones that look like safety goggles. There are actually really stylish options now that look like regular glasses and you would never know they were blue light blocking. If you spend any amount of time on a screen during the day which if you are a working mom is basically all day these are worth having. FSA eligible.

Red Light Therapy Wand

Around $50-70 on Amazon

Red light therapy has been all over the wellness world for the last couple of years and the wand version is the most accessible entry point. You use it on your face for a few minutes a day and over time it supports collagen production and reduces inflammation. FSA eligible and much more affordable than in-office treatments.

$75 to $150 — The Ones She Has Been Wanting

These are the gifts that require a little more intention. Things she has probably saved on Pinterest or sent to her partner with a hint that went nowhere. Your FSA or HSA balance makes these a lot easier to justify.

Oura Ring

Around $299-499 for the ring, subscription required

The Oura Ring is the wearable health tracker that everyone seems to be talking about right now. It tracks sleep, heart rate variability, activity, and recovery and gives you a daily readiness score that tells you how your body is actually doing. It is subtle enough that it just looks like a ring, which matters when you are already wearing a lot. HSA eligible.

HyperIce Normatec Leg Compression

Around $349-399

This one looks like something an athlete would use which is exactly who it was designed for but moms who spend all day on their feet carrying babies and chasing toddlers absolutely qualify for recovery tools. The Normatec uses dynamic air compression to relieve leg pain and improve circulation. If you have ever sat down at the end of the day and your legs just ache, this is for you. FSA and HSA eligible.

Fitness Tracker

Around $100-150 depending on model

A good fitness tracker does more than count steps. The better ones track sleep quality, heart rate, stress levels, and cycle tracking which is genuinely useful data when you are trying to understand your body. Whoop is a popular option is HSA eligible depending on your plan.

$150 and Up — The Splurge She Would Never Buy Herself

This is the category where your FSA and HSA card really changes the game. These are the products that cost enough that most moms talk themselves out of them even when they really want them. Using pre-tax dollars makes the math feel completely different.

Theragun Mini Massage Gun

Around $169- $279 on Amazon

The Theragun Mini is the compact version of the massage gun that everyone has been raving about for a few years now. It is small enough to fit in a drawer or a bag but powerful enough to actually work on tight shoulders and sore muscles. If you are a mom who carries tension in your neck and back from carrying kids all day, this one is for you. FSA and HSA eligible.

Dr. Dennis Gross DRx SpectraLite FaceWare Pro

Around $455

This is the red light therapy face mask that has been on every beauty editor's list for the last two years. It won Forbes Most-Loved by Editors and an Allure Best of Beauty award and it is genuinely the kind of thing that is hard to justify at full price with regular money. But when you are spending down an FSA balance or using HSA funds you have been accumulating, it starts to look a lot more reasonable. Seven minutes a day, clinically shown to reduce fine lines and improve skin tone. This is the one.

How to Actually Use Your FSA or HSA Card

If you have never used your FSA or HSA card for anything beyond a doctor's office copay, here is what you need to know to make this easy.

On Amazon, search for what you want and then filter by FSA or HSA eligible in the left sidebar. The filter is buried a little but it is there. Everything marked eligible can be purchased directly with your card at checkout.

FSA Store is a dedicated site that only carries FSA eligible products. Everything there is automatically eligible so there is no guesswork.

Walmart and Target also carry FSA and HSA eligible products and accept your card at checkout. Look for the FSA eligible label on product tags.

If you pay out of pocket you can usually submit for reimbursement through your plan administrator. Keep your receipts and a record of what you purchased and why it qualifies.

One thing worth knowing is that eligibility can vary by plan. Some of these items may require a Letter of Medical Necessity from your doctor depending on how your specific plan is structured. When in doubt check with your plan administrator before purchasing.

A Final Note

Moms are really good at spending money on everyone else and finding reasons to talk themselves out of spending on themselves. Your FSA and HSA money is already set aside. It belongs to you. It was designed to support your health and wellness. And taking care of yourself is not a luxury.

Whether you send this to someone who loves you as a hint or you use it to finally buy the thing you have been putting off, I hope it helps. You deserve it. Happy Mother's Day. 🫶
